A
little inside info:
Ken Kelley was the original artist behind the KISS DESTROYER album. Ken Kelly was born in 1946 on a naval base in New London, Connecticut, Kelly and his family moved to Brooklyn, and, finally, to Long Island, where he spent his adolescence. He’d always had a knack for art. His hard work paid off and was hand selected in his career to be true artist worthy enough to draw the incredible album cover for KISS’s DESTROYER album.
Chaotic Collectibles recently reached out to Mr. Kelly inquiring if he could confirm this drawing was in fact a local artist. Mr. Kelly explained that he always completed his drawings in pencil never in color. He continued to explain that this drawing was probably by a fan, or local artist. However, it does appear to be around the same time frame as launch of KIDS’s album. Mr. Kelly explained he wouldn’t be surprised if in fact this was done by a friend of Mr. Woloch. That he was always receiving drawings from fans, close friends, and other artists in the area around that time frame. This appears to be an amateur drawing in my opinion based on some slight imperfections noted in the drawing. But I do not know much about artwork in general, or this particular style of drawing.
We cannot confirm the actual artist of this obsolete unique drawing. We can confirm it’s all original, and drawn in colored pencil on a vintage piece of paper and fits the year and era. This item was removed from an estate located in Mystic CT. It was originally rolled up and stored away for many years until we acquired it and had it professionally framed as shown.
The back of the drawing does have some initials on the back which are somewhat hard to make out. This is an Amazing vintage KISS collectible drawing for sure.
This drawing is professionally framed in UV non-glare glass, in retro style frame. The frame measures roughly 24 X 24 inches. This would make a great addition to anyone’s collection. It’s perfect for the HARDCORE KISS Collectors!!
Overall Condition:
The drawing is secured inside frame as shown. Drawing may display some creasing or wear in select areas. Item was unrolled and then professionally framed. Item appears to be drawn on thick vintage type construction paper. The paper appear’s to be somewhat weighted and is unique all on its own.
We displayed this picture on many KISS fan forums. The fan base explained this is a hard to find drawing. It’s highly sought after by collectors, and these type of original drawings do not surface much here for sale on eBay. We had lots of interest in this item, and have decided to put it up for auction here on eBay. We’re hoping it makes it way to a collector who appreciates and displays this awesome piece!!
Note: We can provide the email transcript when we contacted Mr. Kelly concerning this drawing. He explained that he was unsure of the exact artist of this drawing, he had very little information to give us only that the group and Mr. Woloch use to receive lots of gifts, drawings, posters and other artwork during the time the KISS album Destroyer was made.
